Call for papers – Dialogues on International Law

The 6th Conference “Dialogues on International Law” will take place at Di Tella Law School (Buenos Aires) on October 9th 2023. The general theme of the conference will be “Non-hegemonic International Law?”. The keynote speakers will be Professor Nico Krisch, (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies) and Professor Monica Hakimi (Columbia Law School).

The Conference seeks to bring together scholars in International Law and related disciplines, such as IR, History, Economics, and Philosophy, to examine contemporary issues concerning the international legal system, the international community, and particularly Latin America. The emphasis will be on hegemonic, non-hegemonic, counter-hegemonic and post-hegemonic approaches to international law.

We welcome original papers on any area of international law that tackles the general theme, including papers on war, trade, the environment, human rights, sources, regionalism, etc. The call is open to scholars, practitioners, and advanced students of international law and related disciplines. Papers will be selected on the basis of quality, originality, and their capacity to generate an interesting discussion. Paper proposals must be unpublished, and may be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. Discussion in Buenos Aires will be held in English.

Abstracts will be received (maximum 500 words) until 28th February 2023. They should be sent to dialogosDI@utdt.edu. Selected participants will be notified by 15th March 2023. Proposals should contain an abstract and a brief CV of the candidate(s). Drafts should be sent by September 20th at the latest to be circulated amongst participants.

Speakers will be responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses (limited funds may be available for accommodation). Selected papers from the Conference will be published in LADI – Revista Latinoamericana de Derecho Internacional, subject to peer review.
